SAFETY GLEN – TACKLING THE BUSINESS OF HEALTH, SAFETY AND MATRIMONY
Being able to adapt in a fast-paced environment is one of the big challenges for *Craveable Brands’ National Health and Safety Manager Glen Reynolds.
Glen is tasked with the very important role of working with company leaders, franchise partners and other stakeholders to develop strategies that meet workplace health and safety legal responsibilities and organisational aspirations.
“In my role, you need to get your head quickly around a problem, so the ability to adapt is key,” he explains.
Glen says it’s imperative that franchisees and restaurant managers lead their teams well when it comes to health and safety – after all, the potential number of hazards in a food, and restaurant business is great.
“It’s important that injuries, near misses and hazards are reported,” he says. “I always encourage the franchise partners to involve everyone in safety initiatives to create and maintain the safest possible environment for everyone; employees, contractors and customers included.”
Glen (or ‘Safety Glen’ as his colleagues affectionately call him) is primarily responsible for overseeing the safety management system across Craveable Brand’s network of restaurants Australia wide. But what does that mean?

Almost 600 outlets. Millions of customers. 12,000 staff. A lot of them under the age of 20. Hot oil. Grills. Kitchens. Delivery cars. Customers. Chicken. Food. In this fast paced and multi-faceted environment, safety is a major priority. An ongoing and significant priority. And Glen takes his job seriously.
Currently engaged, Glen and his fiancée are planning their Bali nuptials. No stranger to travel, before joining Craveable Brands Glen spent 15 years in the UK. He is highly qualified in his craft having gained a Bachelor of Environmental Science from the University of Canterbury and a NEBOSH National Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety.
AGILE – AUTHENTIC – ADVENTUROUS
Glen has held senior safety, health and environment (SHE) management positions in UK companies Metro Safety Group and Malcolm Hollis before moving to Australia and taking on the role of National Workplace Health and Safety Manager with Discount Superstores Group. Let’s just say he’s a big-wig in the world of safety policies, incident investigations, risk management and all that very important duty of care stuff!
Glen has never been afraid of rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck into hard work. When he was 15 he stocked the shelves for a big chain store back in his native New Zealand, frequently doing the night shift. Nowadays he has been known to man the fryer or the burger bar on occasion. Always eager to learn, Glen says one of the best pieces of advice was given to him by a previous boss:
“He told me that the best way I could become really good at my job was to surround myself with people smarter than me. That’s been invaluable to know and I feel like I’m learning all the time from the great minds at Craveable.”
