Oporto one of the best food franchises to buy

Why this year is the year of Oporto

Oporto is one of the most instantly recognisable brands in the Australian quick service food industry. Its festive, youthful vibe is there in every element of our restaurants. With a modern, fiery menu, Portuguese-inspired restaurant design and vibrant branding, what’s not to celebrate?

And the good news is that it’s only getting better. Innovation is what the next few years are all about in the Oporto world. So we’re looking for passionate, talented, hard-working people to come on board as franchisees, because Australia just can’t get enough of Oporto!

Customer Experience

One of the benefits of being part of such a big brand is that we’re purely customer-focused. No one person leads our branding decisions, which puts Oporto in the privileged position of being able to hear our customers without the filter of ego.

For example, if customers ask for more salad items, we give them those items! If something performs well, we build on it. That’s why you may notice a bunch of changes on our menu, and to our store designs.

We’re making sure that our customers get the exact experiences they’re asking for.

Outstanding Food

As we mentioned, you may notice that our menu has changed. Of course, we’re still serving up our tasty flame-grilled burgers and flame-grilled chicken, but we’re also introducing vegetarian and gluten-free options.

We’re moving with the times and making sure that we stay out in front of the Aussie food franchise world. That’s where we’ve always been in terms of quality and innovation – so why would we slow down now?

Leadership in Convenience

Oporto’s loyal customers love quality: quality food and quality experiences. That means we have to give them quality convenience too. So look out for more drive-thrus, more digital options and more opportunities for click & collect, catering and similar.

It’s not enough to just have the tastiest chicken around. We’re making sure our customers get plenty of options for ordering and receiving their food too.

Network and Growth

Aussies have a big appetite for Oporto, so we’re making sure our network expands to meet their needs. That’s where you come in! If you think you have what it takes to jump on board as a franchise partner, we’d love to chat.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know what type of store is best for me?

Oporto has three store formats: drive-thru, pequeno (shop front) and food court. Each format has its own strengths and challenges – and, of course, each one comes with a different price tag:

    • drive-thrus cost between $600,000 and $800,000 (plus GST)
    • pequenos cost between $400,000 and $550,000 (plus GST)
    • food court outlets cost between $400,000 and $550,000 (plus GST).

The best format depends on what you’re looking for. If your priority is high turnover, you may find that a drive-thru is the best fit. If shorter operating hours are a bonus to you, a food court outlet may be ideal.

It’s all a matter of preference, but don’t worry. This is not a decision you’ll need to make quickly. We advise all potential franchisees to take their time doing independent research and seeking advice before making any commitments.

Then, if you decide you want to join the Oporto familia, we’ll be here to help you every step of the way.

  • Why should I buy a franchise, rather than starting an independent business?

Most of our Franchise Partners attribute their success to the level of support that comes with buying a franchise. They don’t have to make any of the little decisions, or trial any of the systems. Their menu is set, and their website is established and reliable.

As any business owner knows, you can put endless amounts of time into those sorts of details. When you step into your Oporto, all you need to worry about is following the steps you’ve learned in training.

And when problems arise, our teams of experts can step in and guide you.

  • What qualifications do I need to own an Oporto store?

To own an Oporto store (or any business in Australia), you simply need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. There are no formal qualifications necessary.

That’s not to say that there isn’t a strict vetting process, however. Oporto may be all about familia, passion and a fiesta environment, but the success of our brand depends on the quality of our franchise partners. In other words: we take this process very seriously.

So we look for business-minded folks who are capable of both working within and leading a team. A love of customer service is also imperative. If you have all those qualities, we’ll give you the knowledge and support you need to be successful.

  • Who owns Oporto, and what other restaurants do they own?

Our parent company is Craveable Brands, an Australian company that also owns Red Rooster and Chicken Treat. These three iconic, chicken-based restaurant brands each dominate their own corners of the Aussie food franchise world.

This is partly due to the shared resources they can all access. Craveable Brands’ buying power is unparalleled, and our development and technology teams work together. That means we can reach for far more ambitious goals than any of the three brands could alone.
